Ship Simulator Professional v2.0 is a new discontinued professional ship simulation platform. It is created by Dutch-based simulator software developer VSTEP. It was released by the end of March 2009. Ship Simulator Professional provides users with a professional maritime training and simulation platform. It features 30 different advanced detailed vessels in highly detailed surroundings.
Ship Simulator Professional supports Windows 7 and can be used with up to three external monitors. It also supports the use of external chart devices, AIS monitors and other navigation systems and hardware. You can configure up to 8 serial connections separately for different NMEA sentences, this includes update frequencies, baud rates etc. It is also possible to use Ethernet instead of serial communications (23 NMEA output, 9 input).
The Ship Simulator Professional Instructor Station is a specialized training suite designed for maritime instructors that want full flexibility to create specialized training scenarios for students. It includes all the advanced features of Ship Simulator Professional v2.0 as well as specialized high end creation tools to cater for all specific training needs.
The Instructor Station Suite includes;
With the Advanced Ship Dynamics Editor, you can adapt the characteristics of the simulator vessels, to suit your specific training needs. The Editor allows you to change vessel properties including:
- Displacement
- Engine type, thrust and allocation
- Rudder placement, dimensions and steering forces
- Dynamic vessel response to waves
- Maneuvering characteristics
All maneuvering data can be saved in a Microsoft Excel table for further detailed analysis. This allows you to compare the simulated sea trials with the real sea trial report. Further refinement of the hydrodynamic properties allows you to get an accurate match of the simulated and the real ship maneuvering characteristics.
Add a full Mission Editor to Ship Simulator Professional to create your own custom missions, optimized for your training or demonstration objectives. The missions you make with the Mission Creator can be uploaded to the Global Mission Repository, or in case you have the Ship Simulator Multiplayer Server module, to the local Mission Repository.
This editor is a powerful tool that allows you to customize all vessel configurations. It allows the user to do the following:
- Place bridge navigation instruments
- Add navigation lights
- Place mooring/towing connection points
This tool is an advanced version of the basic weather editor, allowing for further adjustment and creation of realistic weather and dynamic wave & current effects and parameters. Chart Editor: With the Chart Editor, you can place specific buoy objects on charts. You can set the buoy model, color, and light signaling characteristics.
Configure and run your own Ship Simulator Professional multiplayer sessions allowing sessions of up to 24 players simultaneously.
The Mission Server tool allows for missions that are created with the Mission Creation Tool to be uploaded to this Mission Server. You can thus upload the missions you make to your own local mission repository. Every Ship Simulator Professional installation can then connect to this local Mission Server and download the available new missions from there.
With the Real-Time Instructor tool, the instructor can create real-time training sessions with one or multiple trainees while influencing several training elements in real-time, including:
- Weather and waves. The instructor can make sudden and real-time changes to the weather conditions, to see if the trainee responds to this properly.
- Rudder and engine damage. Create damage effects on trainee vessels in real-time e.g. simulate a rudder suddenly get stuck, make one or more engines perform below the optimum, etc.
- The trajectory of autonomous (target) vessels. The instructor can create difficult situations for the trainee by adding vessels on a collision course. The instructor can also record trainee sessions for playback and review afterwards.
